Performance of birds in model cognitive tasks: a cross-taxon comparison
Schlőglová, Nikola ; Exnerová, Alice (advisor) ; Kahounová, Hana (referee)
Bird cognition is an immensely complex topic. Many factors influence how birds acquire, process and act upon obtained information. Some bird groups outshine others regarding their cognitive skills, and the underlying reasons for these differences are extensively researched and discussed. Birds naturally face varying environmental factors that could have driven the evolution of specialised cognitive adaptations not generalisable across all contexts. In contrast, some birds perform well in a broad range of cognitive tasks and may possess general intelligence. Model cognitive tasks help us gain standardised data on birds' cognitive performances to compare them across different taxa, which enables us to identify potential parallels. This thesis covers selected model cognitive tasks: string-pulling tasks, reasoning by exclusion tasks, transitive inference tasks, tasks related to mirror use and reversal learning tasks, for which it analyses and compares the performance of both well-studied and understudied bird taxa. The thesis describes the selected cognitive tasks, summarises available data and highlights correlations between birds' performances and other factors while discussing possible explanations for their varying performances. Finally, the thesis addresses the question of general intelligence...
The Crime of Rape - A Comparative Study
Burdová, Nikola ; Mulák, Jiří (advisor) ; Richter, Martin (referee)
The Crime of Rape - A Comparative Study Abstract The subject of the thesis is a comparison of the actus reus of rape in selected European countries. Therefore, the aim was to introduce the reader to the actus reus of rape in several European countries and thus enable a comparison of how neighbouring countries approach the problem of the formulation of rape. For this purpose, the criminal law of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Denmark, Great Britain (which was divided into England along with Wales, and Scotland, due to the legislation differences), and Spain was selected. Thus, the countries represented are countries across almost all of Europe whose formulations of the facts differ. The method I have chosen is a comparison of the elements of the actus reus. The object of the examination was whether the selected criminal law operates with actus reus based on the elements of violence or lack of consent and how this possible lack of consent is defined. Furthermore, the perpetrator's conduct was examined, i.e., whether the criminal law subsumes any sexual acts under the crime of rape or only intercourse itself. It is also essential to determine who can be the perpetrator and the victim of rape. It was therefore ascertained whether the actus reus is gender-neutral or whether it is based on the sex of the...

Kaprálová, Klára ; Češka, Jakub (advisor) ; Hrdlička, Josef (referee)
ENGLISH ABSTRACT This dissertation is focused on Prague in views in literary works of post-february exile authors, which emigrated after year 1948: Egon Hostovský, Zdeněk Němeček and Jiří Kovtun. The picture of Prague, which we can (re)construct from their works, is different in each case. In the novel Nezvěstný of Egon Hostovský dominate followings motives: gray, weak contours, theatricality, panoptic and a metaphorical description of February Prague. The main features of the works of Zdeněk Nemeček are: close relationship between teller and main character, short dialogs, view from above, sad feelings and feeling of separation. Konvtun's work named Pražská ekloga is specific with irony (it is evidently a product of considerable time span from the other described events), naturalistic features and war atmosphere. The authors associate a considerable relationship to Prague and their contributions to the programme "Slovo a svět" of the Radio Free Europe, in spite of their different life stories and poetics. The main theoretic result of the diploma is city poetology of Daniela Hodrová ("Citlivé město"). Interpretive interest isn't limited only to the mentioned literary works, in the diploma are also considered data from the periodic newspapers and other professional literature. The objective of the...
